On Sunday, August 25, 1985, Dennis Deneau, BPS Missionary visited Liberty Baptist Tabernacle. He presented the Biblical concept of Scripture production by local churches. He showed that God gave His Word to churches for reproduction, not to book publishing houses nor book stores. A new vision was born at Liberty Baptist Tabernacle that evening! Senior Pastor Wayne Williams was urged by Brother Deneau to visit Dr. Don Fraser in Bowie, Texas, the missionary who first had the vision of Local Church Scripture production in the twentieth century, where churches rather than publishing houses produced the WORD of GOD. Pastor Williams went to Bowie, TX in October of 1985. After sitting under Dr. Fraser's instruction concerning Scripture production, Pastor Wayne Williams returned with two convictions from this meeting: # 1) Liberty Baptist Tabernacle must get involved somehow in Local Church Scripture production, and # 2) Liberty Baptist Tabernacle must become debt-free and stay that way.
For a short time after that, the church helped Brother Deneau with a pocket-sized Spanish John/Romans project for Mexico City, and also with some English John/Romans.
During this same time period, William Byers, who was a pastor in Custer, South Dakota, and likewise had been exposed to the Bearing Precious Seed ministry of Dr. Don Fraser; became greatly burdened for this work as well. Brother Byers resigned his church, joined Liberty Baptist Tabernacle, and the Liberty Baptist Tabernacle launched a Scripture production ministry with Brother and Mrs. Ginny Byers being commissioned to go on the road as BPS missionaries. In 2001, God called Brother Byers home. To this day, Mrs. Byers continues to be involved and is a great blessing to the Lighthouse Baptist Press Ministry.
As time went on, scripture signatures and covers were printed elsewhere, and Liberty Baptist Tabernacle did the collating, stapling, cutting, and shipping of scriptures worldwide€¦.but a major change took place in 1996!
A giant step of faith was taken by Liberty Baptist Tabernacle in June, 1996, when a Five-Web News King Press was purchased from the Milldale International Ministries in Zachary, Louisiana for $75,000.00 [worth a ½ million dollars]. Liberty Baptist Tabernacle did not have the money to make such a purchase. Yet, the church voted to buy this equipment by faith, and began raising the funds.
Pastor and Mrs. Wayne Williams had ten acres of land on the south side of Rapid City where they had built their home. After much prayer, they offered land to the church to build a building to house the printing press. Work was begun in August of 1997.
As the building was being built, excitement to get the press up and running began to grow. Funds for the building came in from all directions. Almost all the labor was donated, and much of the building materials were donated as well, from many sources. The first building built was a 48 feet by 60 feet print shop! On September 7, 1998, the print shop was dedicated - DEBT-FREE! The press had already been PAID IN FULL! Then again in 2002, another building approximately the same size as the first one was built to house three semi-truck loads of paper at a time.
A miracle indeed had taken place in both building and press. ONLY THE LORD BE PRAISED FOR ALL THIS! IT IS HIS WORK, NOT MAN'S!
And God's confirmation on all this! That very same week the church voted to purchase the Five Web News King Press; during church visitation, a man was led to the Lord by one of our church members. He came to church, the night the church voted to purchase the press. After the vote, he raised his hand and shared that he was a professional printer and knew how to operate the press! Brother Bret Foley is now on our staff as the LBPM Print Shop Manager. What confirmation! God provided us the printer when we as a church, stepped out on faith and voted to purchase the press, without knowing where we were going to locate the press nor who was going to operate it! Romans 1:17says: For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
In 1998, Veteran Missionary [to Lithuania] Tom Furse [sent out of LBT] came off the mission field, when his wife, Shelley was stricken with cancer; to join the staff of LBT as Associate Pastor. After Bro. Byers home coming to be with the Lord in 2001, the Furse's soon realized why God had moved them back to Liberty Baptist Tabernacle.
God's call was confirmed on Brother Furse, after he had spent three months relieving another missionary in Okinawa, Japan. It was while Bro. Furse was in Okinawa ministering to the US Marines; that the printing of the Military Edition of the John/Romans Soul-winning Booklet was born. Well over a million of these booklets have been given to our US Military men and women all over the world especially those deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Only eternity will tell of all who have been saved!
As mentioned above, it was in Okinawa, that God put HIS call upon Bro. Furse, to become the Director-Missionary/Evangelist of the Lighthouse Baptist Press Ministry. Brother Furse and his wife, Shelley, know firsthand as foreign field missionaries one of the greatest needs there is for a missionary to have is being able to provide the WORD to those they are ministering to.
In 2006, Eric and Karyn McCarty and their two children, Kristen and Alex joined LBPM as Missionaries, as well, representing LBPM to churches within the Rocky Mountain region of our great country.
The Lighthouse Baptist Press Ministry is made up volunteers from Liberty Baptist Tabernacle. It is not unheard of to have as many as 40-50 members volunteering to come out each week to work in our print shop. We also have a retired saints ministry [65 and older], who give of their time and talents every Tuesday, on a weekly basis.
The Lighthouse Baptist Press Ministry continues today to grow in its outreach, printing and shipping containers filled with Printed Scriptures and Tracts at NO COST to independent BAPTIST missionaries around the world!
